The meeting

I'm so tired.

On Sunday, I had to go to a meeting at my bosses house (Is that the plural of 'boss' in that situation? Boss's, or boss', seems like it should be right but doesn't look like it. Whatever.) over dinner to discuss what we are to do about the current schedule/lack of humans.

Oh, did I mention the lack of humans? Of course not. My ONLY coworker put in his 2 weeks notice, and was told the next day not to come back. But they hadn't hired anyone else, leaving....Me. ME! ALONE! to do all the work on that shift. That's 7 days of work, 12 hours a day! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah.

So my manager, (the bread dude, who is my age, that I am/was apprenticing under)T and I all went over to the Victorian mansion that the boss people live in, and had a very surreal evening.

6pm: Arrive. Compliment house. Receive no response. Give wine. Receive no thank you.

6:05-6:20pm: Make uncomfortable introductions between T and bread dude. (I knew that they wouldn't be fans of one another. I rock, cause I was RIGHT.) Get weird tour of house from boss lady where she talks about all her expensive antiques and period-appropriate wall paper.

6:20pm-7pm: Sit and make uncomfortable small talk. Boss man arrives and has us touch and pet a box of furs his creepy friend brought back from Alaska. Discuss weddings, travel, and have long silences.

7pm: Dinner. Salad with still-frozen shrimp on top, dry pork, over cooked broccoli, potatoes, left over bread from bakery. Dessert is day-old pastries from bakery. I am put in my place for describing desserts to T without using the actual titles.

7:45pm-8:30pm: Discuss schedule, plans for bakery, my shift movement, hiring of new people. Boss lady chastises me for not eating all the pastries I make. Things are going fine--going to hire night person, going to move me to days, things are happy. New recipes are discussed, etc. Bread dude suddenly opens big fucking trap and says that I shouldn't be moved to days, bosses accept this. I sit with mouth open, stutter small protest, am talked over. Nearly weep.

8:45pm: Leave. Driving boss dude home as he totaled his car. Begin pseudo yelling at him for throwing me under the bus. He sits and stares at me.

8:50-9:15: Change clothes for work. Bread dude drinks a beer in my living room, makes strained small talk with T.

9:15: Drive bread dude home. More pseudo yelling. He verbally shrugs.

Then I went to work.

When I got home, I proceeded to sleep for about 19 hours. Now I am awake, and it's 9:30 in the morning. I have to work a 12 hour night tonight, come back in 5 hours later, then travel to my cousin's house to go to his gallery closing and have dinner. I will then come home on my birthday and sleep all day, because I have to work another 12-13 hour shift on Friday.

I am, to say the least, not happy.

I looked at the ads the manager boss people posted online--they aren't looking for a graveyard person. I may die. I cannot do this job. I definitely cannot do this job alone. I can, and will, quit if necessary. Then they will REALLY be fucked. But I don't want to quit because then I will feel like a failure because this is what I want to do with my life and it's technically my college and where else am I going to go and have this kind of opportunity, and this run on sentence really isn't doing me any justice and I should just remember that there is a difference between doing what you want with your life and getting fucked in the process and all I want to do is cry and admit defeat.

Seriously? I'm feeling really, really negative.

The next time my bosses or bread dude try to talk to me about this, it is not going to be pretty. I have essentially hit the wall as far as sleep goes, and it's making me so emotional and stressed. I'm losing sleep over this shit, having nightmares, and then am a zombie all 'day' when I am awake. I'm supposed to be so happy and excited about planning my wedding and 'carrying the ball' and furthering myself and all I want to do is quit this fucking job and go back to not working and being awake in the day time and functioning like a normal person.

But I wouldn't forgive myself for that. Ugh. What do I do?

THIS! IS! MY! BLOG!

It's my 300th post. Sorry about the title, I couldn't help myself.

Lots to cover.

-Getting moved to day shift at work. Praise your deity of choice. When done with praise, please ask for expediency. This is a good thing because:
*I will no longer work hours that are rotting me from the inside
*I will be able to have a life that does not revolve around sleeping and bitching
*I have more experience with/desire to do the sort of pastry work that is done during day shift (Cakes, tarts, tartlets, cookies, quick breads, muffins, scones, etc.
*Did I mention it's not graveyard?
*I get along famously with the girls that work during the day (Liberal agnostic baking misanthropes with potty mouths unite!)
*I can see myself working there for a long ass time (read:Career day, baby!)
*I'm tired.

I know that I am getting moved to day shift because my Gary Busy Boss told me so, but didn't give me a time frame. It would seem that the co-workers mentioned above have done some begging/demanding on my behalf, so, yeah, I'm hoping that this happens sooner rather than later.

-My mother is coming to visit next month for my bridal shower. I purchased her plane tickets today. This is, as she WELL knows, her last chance for 'redemption' (Read:Her being allowed to come to the wedding/take part in my life in any real way) in my eyes. She says that she will not be drinking at all while she is here. I'm holding my fucking breath. She keeps talking about how she is a totally different person, how I don't know how different she is, blah blah blah, well, I will believe it when I see it.

-My tightwad rich bitch aunt suddenly had a change of heart and is offering to send T and me on our honeymoon. She will pay airfare and offer up one of her houses to us. This reeks of her sons. I am nearly certain that her two sons (whom I love dearly) told her what a pain in the ass my family has been to me regarding my happiness as a whole. So, assuming there isn't a catch, T and I are off to Hawaii here in a few months.

-Speaking of travel, T and I are going to be going to NY in the fall, for this. One of my online knitting groups is renting out a flipping block of hotel rooms/a lodge, and we are going to Party party party and spend retarded money on yarn. T is coming because 1)He loves me and knows that flying kills me a little 2)We're going to be gone for a few extra days and may as well see what all the hubbub is about with NYC, as well as refresh my hatred for humanity as a whole and 3)I need someone to sherpa my yarn! (Plane tickets are AMAZINGLY cheap right now! I'm impressed. Not terribly impressed that it cost twice as much to get my mom out here than it did my friend C to get out here for my bridal shower, and she's coming from a touch (Read:A lot) farther away, but still! Cheap! It's cheaper for us to fly to NY than MT. I'm confused.)

-T got another promotion at work.

-I forgot about all the birthdays that are on the horizon (Mine? Really? Is it possible to forget your own birthday?) so I am under the gun a bit to get some shit DONE.

That's it, I think.

Grasping at Straws

I am utterly exhausted. Seriously. I had forgotten what working graveyard does to me. Nausea, disorientation, dizziness, my skin breaks out, I'm crabby and bitchy, I'm depressed, I cry all the time....

So yeah, my job is going great.

They're hiring a daytime position, which makes me weep with wanting. I am certain that there is no way I will be transferred, because lord knows no one wants to work fucking nights--tons of people have quit that job for that reason. They just found someone to work nights that doesn't suck! Why transfer me?

The stuff that gets done on the day shift is more what I'm interested in doing. The day shift

I can't even type about it without crying I want it so bad. Knowing that I cannot, and will not get it, no matter what I've done (oh, and I've talked to those who need to know about it) makes me semi-hysterical with depression.

Whatever.

Moistest

Some days it seems like these last three years have flown by. Other days, it seems like forever.

Either way, I wouldn't have spent them with anyone else.

Three years--so much has happened. Daft Punk was like a religious experience, the Deftones were a let down, DJ Shadow was amazing, you signed the deed on our home. We adopted some fish, I bought a new car. I quit my job, you got promoted (twice), I started down the path towards a life long goal. We went to Vegas--twice--saw Cirque de Soleil, ate a swanky french food in the Eiffel Tower, won money at the air port. My dad passed away, we learned there's a difference between the family you're born into and the family you find. We learned how to throw one hell of a party, and how to recover with grace--even if I did take a little longer to learn than you.

The good, the bad, the hilarious, the in between, you stood right next to me. When I tripped, when I faltered, when I doubted myself, you were there to remind me how strong I am, that you will always love me, no matter what happens.

You saved my life, honeybun, and you didn't even know it. Every day with you has been a blessing--there is so much joy and love in my heart (even if I don't act like it all the time) and it's there because of you. Every day you help me grow and learn to be a better, happier person. I am so very thankful for every moment of our lives together.

Happy anniversary, sweetie. Here's to three years of memories, and many, many years of laughter ahead of us. I'm looking forward to all our adventures to come--There's nothing we can't do when we're together, after all.

(Oh, and by the way? Despite all my bitching about the wedding planning--I'm really, really excited to be your wife. :) )

Less than Thrilling

So my meeting was...odd.

Basically, one of my coworkers may very well not be working for the company any more, which for some reason was information that I needed to have.

What does this mean to me?

Well, I very well may be not working for this company any more either, but the company doesn't know that either.

I cannot do this job alone. Period. No two ways about it. Should my coworker go elsewhere, I will be left.....alone. Sorry, kids, not what I signed on for. (I also didn't sign on for all these hours every week....but money is money and every day I spend at this job is one day closer to my ultimate goal....I keep reminding myself of that, lest I weep openly.) (Have I mentioned that I don't love my job? By no means do I hate it--Actually, the only thing I don't love is the hours, as graveyard is killing me slowly and surely. I suppose this isn't so terrible, as it's the job I want to do as a career, not the shift.)

Anyway. Let's recap!

So my boss called me to have a meeting with him at a local restaurant where we would only drink soda so that he could:

-Tell me that my coworker may not be long for this company
-Tell me I am doing a great job
-Tell me I impressed the dude I am apprenticing under
-Ask me if I can work more
-Tell me, in great detail, about his brother in law
-Find great pleasure in realizing that he and I both despise crowds.

And then I went to work. The end.

Self Doubt Rocks

Have I mentioned that before? You know, the fact that I doubt myself in pretty much all things? Self esteem black hole, that's me.

So the dude I'm apprenticing under has told me how great I am doing, has really made me feel that he isn't lying to me.

So things are good. I've been there a week, I am by no means ready to go forth and do it all on my own (which happens soon enough....) but it seems that should I be able to get my sleep schedule sorted out, I'll be rockin.

But then.

My boss, the Gary Busey look alike, he calls me today. He asks me if we can meet at a restaurant by the bakery before I go to work, so he can ask me some stuff. He sounds happy, chipper, positive. Happy to be speaking with me.

I agree to meet him. This meeting happens in 2 hours.

I have two more hours to panic.

T says that he is probably going to make me an offer--The other dude that works there was asked to sign a contract saying he would stay at least a year. That or he is going to tell me I am making more money or something.

I am also reasonably certain that this meeting is going to be a positive one. But still. I doubt. I panic.

Logically, I can't imagine what business person would have a 'bad' conversation with the noob minutes before the start of a shift.

But still.

I will report back with details tomorrow.

Stock Options

Energy drink stock may soon skyrocket, considering my sleep schedule and constant rate of Iwantsleepnow. Sigh.

Anyway, I'm tired and my face is all broken out and I better get my period soon before I stab someone.

So I will fill out a meme about me and T. (AND THEN MAKE HIM FILL IT OUT!! HILARIOUS!) Oh, and he didn't read my answers before he filled it out--so any startling similarities are simply our weird and gross shared brain. :)

M's answers for T:

1. Who eats more?

T. Which is probably a good thing. I marvel, often, as to how he can eat that much (especially with his GIANT sweet tooth!) and stay so svelte.

2. Who said “I love you” first?

Which time? This time around, me. Drunk, in a bar, on my 24th birthday. The other time around? I am almost certain that he did, although I don't recall the situation.

3. Who is the morning person?

Neither of us. Getting up early is something we both HATE.

4. Who sings better?

T for SURE. I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, he was an all state choir soloist.

5. Who’s older?

T is 51 weeks older.

6. Who’s smarter?

We argue about this. I maintain that he is smarter, because he can do sudoku, crosswords, and any logic puzzle. Also, he can fix anything, has a highly technical job, knows all about any animal on the planet, can tell you all about the universe, etc.

7. Who’s temper is worse?

I'm going to go with mine on that one. When T loses his temper, it is quick and violent, (like when we got rear-ended) but when I lose mine.....Heads roll.

8. Who does the laundry?

Me, 99.9% of the time.

9. Who does the dishes?

Me, 90% of the time.

10. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?

T.

11. Who’s feet are bigger?

T. Thank god.

12. Who’s hair is longer?

Mine. I can't imagine T with long hair--that's funny.

13. Who’s better with the computer?

I think we might be about even. T can fix/figure out any problem with it, so I guess he's ahead of me.

14. Do you have pets?

The fucking fish. Only they don't fuck anymore, since one of them died.

15. Who pays the bills?

T, mostly. We put most of our money in the same account, but he writes the checks.

16. Who cooks dinner?

Me. And lunch, and breakfast.

17. Who drives when you are together?

T. Bless him.

18. Who pays when you go out to dinner?

Mostly T. But I buy the groceries, so it evens out.

19. Who’s the most stubborn?

Oooooh. I'm going to say me....but that's a close one.

20. Who is the first one to admit when they’re wrong?

Me, I think.

21. Who’s family do you see more?

T's. Considering one of his brothers lives with us.....

22. Who named your pet?

T screamed "STOP FUCKING" first, so I guess he did.

23. Who kissed who first?

He kissed me under the flagpole when I was 12.I made him kiss me when we were 16 after he drove me home from play rehearsal. He kissed me again on my dad's couch this time around.

24. Who asked who out?

Him. Every time.

26. Who’s more sensitive?

Me. T's sensitive about a few select things, so I don't poke them that often.

27. Who’s taller?

I plead the 5th.

28. Who has more friends?

We're about even, I think.

29. Who has more siblings?

T wins that one in spades. (I have 3, he has 8.)

*********************************

T's answers for M:

1. Who eats more?

I'd say I do. I'm usually finishing the rest of her food. There are times when she can out eat me with ease.

2. Who said “I love you” first?

She did. I won't even argue on this one.

3. Who is the morning person?

Neither of us really. I have to get up that early for work on a regular basis.... and I hate it. She works at night so morning is bed time.

4. Who sings better?

I do. I know I can sing, but put me on the spot and I'll choke. Catch me when I think nobody's looking and you're likely to hear me making up my own lyrics.

5. Who’s older?

Me, by 51 weeks. It makes remembering so much easier.

6. Who’s smarter?

I think our IQ's are fairly comparable, we just keep our smarts in different areas. (NOT LIKE THAT!) She is much more literary minded, and can cook the shit out of some shit. Plus, she went to school to do the same things we all see on "CSI". As for me, well, I like to do crossword puzzles... and some people always say you have to be way smart for that kinda thing. I just say my head is full of useless trivia that happens to come in handy when putting letters in squares. Meh.

7. Who’s temper is worse?

As far as triggers go, I'd have to say that M has the shorter fuse. She just doesn't put up with any shit, which I find refreshing. I'm more even keel... even when I am pissed off about something. I hear more people are afraid of me when I'm mad though.

8. Who does the laundry?

M usually. I typically only do laundry when I need underwear or socks, or if I'm washing my work clothes.

9. Who does the dishes?

M is constantly doing the dishes, and I know she hates it. I do try to do them as often as possible, unfortunately, that's not as often as M likes.

10. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?

She does. That's just the way it is.

11. Who’s feet are bigger?

Mine. Face it, I'm a guy, and she has very wee feets.

12. Who’s hair is longer?

Hers by far. It would take me years to get to her level.

13. Who’s better with the computer?

Well neither of us has reached programmer status, but I'll say she's better at making the magic box make pretty colors.

14. Do you have pets?

We do. One Oscar (it's a fish) named Harriet, one Jack Dempsey named Liberace, and one catfish that has no name.

15. Who pays the bills?

I pay most of the bills for the household, M only recently got a new job after some months, so her contributions have been limited, understandably so.

16. Who cooks dinner?

M does the vast majority of the cooking around here. It's a rare day that I wind up in the kitchen.

17. Who drives when you are together?

I usually do most of the driving, just because.

18. Who pays when you go out to dinner?

We trade off, depends on who got paid last.

19. Who’s the most stubborn?

We're both pretty stubborn. But M wins between the two of us.

20. Who is the first one to admit when they’re wrong?

I'm wrong a lot.

21. Who’s family do you see more?

Mine by far. Granted my younger brother rents a room in my house, and my parents live ten minutes away...

22. Who named your pet?

I think she did, because I don't remember.

23. Who kissed who first?

If you want to get technical, I kissed her first.... when she was 12! Gross huh? To have known each other that long.

24. Who asked who out?

I asked her out to lunch three years ago, and that was all it took apparently.

26. Who’s more sensitive?

Oh, she is way more sensitive than me. (Unless you count that AT&T commercial, where the businessman dad leaves wife and daughter at home... finds the stuffed monkey thing in his briefcase... takes pictures of it with his phone and sends them to his family from all over the place... then the last picture is of the monkey in front of their home, and the daughter runs outside and jumps into his arms, and so on.)

27. Who’s taller?

She is. But I'm ok with that.

28. Who has more friends?

I'd say she does. She knows people all over the place.

29. Who has more siblings?

I have eight, she has three. The End.
